Interview: Tomb Mold

Our planet is in peril. Does it have its own consciousness, its own voice? Perhaps it speaks to us through music. If Canada’s TOMB MOLD are the conduit for this planetary mind, then the voice of the world is more of a scream of rage and horror. That is what TOMB MOLD captures on their new album Planetary Clairvoyance. The band has been one of the most talked about in death metal circles for the last few years. Few bands can capture both sickness and technicality like TOMB MOLD can. They also have a cosmic/science fiction edge which gives their […]

Album Review: Tomb Mold – Planetary Clairvoyance

TOMB MOLD have emerged as one of the most talked about new death metal bands around. Usually that bodes ill for a band, but for these guys, it is perfectly understandable. They have found a way to merge sick, diseased sounding death metal with a more technical and progressive version of the genre. This is by no means an easy thing to do, as the scale usually tips too much in one direction for such a combo to actually work. TOMB MOLD make it work. Planetary Clairvoyance picks up where their last album Manor Of Infinite Form left off. They […]

WITCH VOMIT: Portland Death Cult To Release Buried Deep In A Bottomless Grave Full-Length Via 20 Buck Spin August 30th; New Track Streaming

Following the reckless barbarity of 2017’s Poisoned Blood MLP, Portland, Oregon-based death cult WITCH VOMIT digs deeper into the ground than ever before, disinterring Buried Deep In A Bottomless Grave, their second full-length torrent of skull-bashing, worm-ridden horror from beyond. On their new LP, WITCH VOMIT — featuring members of fellow Portland crushers Torture Rack — moves toward perfecting the surgical fusion between the driving Scandinavian style violence and subconscious terror that they’ve previously established and the gore obsessed smashing of their American forbears. Subtlety is abolished for a savage attack, imprinted on your withering mind like an impulsive stab […]

ALBUM REVIEW: Magic Circle – Departed Souls

Finally, some honest music. MAGIC CIRCLE have been a kind of cult name in doom metal circles the last few years and have shown a talent for epic metal in the CANDLEMASS vein. Their previous effort Journey Blind was a really strong release that definitely aimed for that mark. On Departed Souls, they are going for a more earthy vibe, injecting some blues and classic rock elements into the heaviness. Think of PENTAGRAM and early BLACK SABBATH more than CANDLEMASS this time around. Most importantly, this has a real pure analog sound to it. Praise be to the metal gods […]
