Forged in 2019, NOROTH is focused on making their own trail of stench. Inspired by the sordid sounds of Bolt Thrower, Incantation, and Cianide, their first album, It Dwells Amongst Us, was released on cassette via Caligari Records at the dawn of the global pandemic. Morbid Chapel Records and Rotted Life soon followed, issuing it on vinyl and CD respectively. It Dwells Amongst Us was immediately succeeded by their more experimental Harbinger full-length, released via Rotted Life and Life After Death. The record continued in the spirit of their debut with a subtle classic heavy metal feel, the addition of drummer Jeremy, who had spent decades serving audio battery in bands like Sanctum and Condition, only adding to the feral nature of the offering.
Sacrificial Solace, released earlier this year, carries on tradition birthing something yet more intense akin to an orgy of Rottrevore, Grave, and Morbid Angel. NOROTH’s Sacrificial Solace is a sharpening of the sounds they began with. Abandoning their more experimental approach in favor of something darker and more feral, they honed in on a more aggressive and primal energy taking the music to new depths of sonic excess.
Formed in 2018, GRAVE INFESTATION recorded their debut demo, Infesticide, as a trio, originally self-released in late 2018 and then picked up for wider release by Invictus Productions. The band wields a sound that near-effortlessly synthesizes every slice of darkness of death metal’s pivotal late ‘80s era. Death metal diehards took notice. Second demo, Infestation Of Rotting Death, consolidated that standing, revealing the band as a quartet with the addition of a second lead guitarist.
In 2022, GRAVE INFESTATION released their full-length debut, Persecution Of The Living. Reprising two re-recorded songs from the preceding demo, the presciently titled Persecution Of The Living wastes no time in getting in and absolutely flaying the listener alive. The foundation remains much the same from the malignant tendrils Morbid Angel cast across the Tampa scene and the buzzsaw bulldoze of the contemporaneous Swedish scene to the ancient foundation of Necrovore, Repulsion, and Sadistic Intent and Carcass’ godly first two albums – but Persecution Of The Living exhibits a frightening clarity in their jackhammering attack. Including members of Ceremonial Bloodbath, Temple Of Abandonment, The Nausea, AHNA, Encoffinate, and other staples from the West Coast of Canada’s metal assault, GRAVE INFESTATION brings along the raw and primitive assault signature of Canadian metal. The band’s second LP Carnage Gathers will be co-released by Invictus Productions and Dark Descent in early 2025.
