WOLFTOOTH: new anthem ‘Darkened Path’ available

US heavy metal mavens WOLFTOOTH release their fierce and blistering new single ‘Darkened Path’, taken from their anticipated fourth studio album, Wizard’s Light, on Ripple Music. About ‘Darkened Path’, guitarist and vocalist Chris Sullivan explains: “‘Darkened Path’ is somewhat of a departure from our mythical past. This song delves deeper into my personal life. One subject I rarely write about for various reasons. This departure wasn’t a conscious one, this song just felt right for these words. The song is loosely based on my mother, who has always had my best intentions in mind. I feel she has helped to […]

Album Review: Denial Of Life – Witness The Power [EP]

Look at the cover of DENIAL OF LIFE’s Witness The Power EP and can someone please tell me why basically a mash-up of two of the most recognizable album covers of one of the most recognizable bands in the history of metal seemed like a great idea? And thus, armed (or footed) with monkey boots and a length of chain, did I step boldly forward to wage unholy war against such flagrant abuse of…wait, I never really even liked SLAYER that much anyway, and – aside from the album after Those Two, for all I know or care, they more […]

Actor/Horror Icon COURTNEY GAINS Announces New Single – ‘Fear The Boogie’

Musician, actor, and celebrated horror icon COURTNEY GAINS, most known for his role as Malachai in the 1984 horror classic Children Of The Corn, will release a brand new song this Halloween. A hook-laden heavy rock horror anthem, ‘Fear The Boogie’ is a collaboration between Gains and Peruvian guitarist/producer Wal. The song was written for the soundtrack to Barn III, an upcoming horror film starring Gains and Kelly Maroney (Fast Times Tt Ridgemont High). Drums on the track were recorded by Toni Mateos (www.tonimateos.com), an accomplished session drummer with credits spanning rock, pop, and film music. Gains and Wal previously […]

Album Review: Dead Heat – Process Of Elimination

Coming up on its 10-year anniversary, Oxnard’s DEAD HEAT returns. The band’s been consistently at it and consistently solid over this time, knocking out two full lengths, a live album, and an EP, moving from releasing its music independently to Boston’s largely hardcore Triple-B Records, and on through the more diverse roster of Tankcrimes, to reach its all-important third album – and Metal Blade debut – Process Of Elimination. Now, this how you start an album, folks! In lieu of some piss-poor, tossed together “intro”, a guitar piece touched with the classical gently welcomes us before the lid is ripped […]

Dark Folk Act GREET To Unveil I Know How To Die, Music video for ‘The Leather Knight’ out now

I Know How To Die is the debut full-length album from Leeds, UK, based songsmith GREET (aka Matthew Broadley). The enchanting dark folk sound evokes the dynamic, awe-inspiring and untamable landscape found in surrounding county of Yorkshire. GREET blurs the lines of traditional folk and drone, diving further into the worlds between reality and fantasy. Through this is created a wonderfully unique cinematic and doom laden atmosphere. I know how to die,Yet I am here still, battle worn,My purpose not fulfilled.A song is calling and still,I am here Watch ‘The Leather Knight’ I Know How To Die was written and […]

Album Review: Kostnateni – Přiliŝnost

The older I get, the more I realize I’m just not weird enough. Just being a fan of metal…even extreme metal…is not enough. I’m on the hunt for the truly outlandish…the fringe dwellers and musical outliers that subvert norms and come up with something new. This year, HAVUKRUUNU and ARKHAAIK have satisfied that craving. But with KOSTNATENI, I’ve reached another level yet. KOSTNATENI is one Mr. DL and I’ve been a follower of his ever since I heard the monumental Oheň hoȓi tam, kde padl EP about four years ago. DL is a man not content to follow well-trodden paths. […]

Ragana + Drowse reveal Ash Souvenir title track from upcoming collaborative release

The forthcoming collaborative album from RAGANA and DROWSE – Ash Souvenir – combines the former’s heavy, emotionally charged metal with the latter’s textural approach to sound. Across four long-form pieces, their voices and instruments move between stark intimacy and overwhelming intensity. During the writing process, Maria (RAGANA) and Kyle (DROWSE) were both in a painful, transitional period, moving back to the Pacific Northwest to be closer to struggling loved ones. This return home and the emotions it stirred echoed in Noel’s (RAGANA) own inherited history. Maria laments on the album’s title track, “‘Ash Souvenir’ is a song dedicated to my […]

Album Review: Arson Charge – A Dying Light

While Denver, Colorado remains one of the most underrated, underreported on and under the radar regional music scenes in the US, that’s in no way a guarantee that everything coming from the Mile High City is worthwhile, or even, for that matter, good. Therefore, when a PR sheet touts ARSON CHARGE as being made up of “former members of…”, this didn’t send me to Bandcamp or the socials plumbing the depths of the interweb so I could seem more “hip” or “in the know”. Because, when you get right down to it, a band stands on its own merit, no […]

Bloody Mountain Records Brings You VALDUR’s Guilded Abyss

Mammoth Lakes (CA) – Seven years since the release of their last full-length album, the Black/Death Metal swarm that is VALDUR have released Guilded Abyss on Bloody Mountain Records. VALDUR is a distortion guild of the riff; musical merchants of the deep. Obscure music for mellifluous minds. The individuals of this abyssal congregation need only the desire to assemble and create the vibrations of aural alchemy for your aural pleasure. Guilded Abyss Track Listing: Hailing Molten Meteors Mangled And Rotting (Spiritus Mortuus) Guilded Abyss Doomed Pt.II Drinking From The Chalice Of Banishment Stars Of Belial Waves Of Boiling Water/Molten Meteors […]

Ripping Remains – Carbonized Effluvium [EP]

Literally born from DRIPPING DECAY, Oregonians RIPPING REMAINS unleash their first acrid spew in the form of Carbonized Effluvium. The synth-laden title track takes its time, transuding and gelatinous, while ‘Necrodestiny’ reeks of pre-’90s CARCASS in that most glorious stench-ridden way. Decimating and twisting, ‘The Horror Writes Itself’ bucks and writhes, riff upon riff piled on the kicking rodeo bull of heaving rhythm, skinned and screaming solo ending in a boastfully Luddite groove. ‘Rub My Infection On You’ recalls moments of JUNGLE ROT in its furor, early OBITUARY in its Allen West-influenced solo. The doom swagger that begins ‘Maternal Rot’ […]
