The PARROT squawks again! I thought this bird had almost ceased to exist (there’s a comedy sketch in here somewhere!) but it’s just too mean to die! Not only that, but A Young Person’s Guide To King Parrot shows that they are angrier, louder and more vitriolic than ever. If there was ever such a thing as a bird that could get rabies, KING PARROT would be that bird!

The band has always been manic and violent, but this new one pushes them further than ever. I would still call them grindcore, but there’s no band that sounds quite like these guys. Tracks like ‘Fuck You And The Horse You Rode In On’ and ‘Cunning As A Dunny Rat’ rage like never before and this time, KING PARROT has really nailed the production. The album just sounds thicker and heavier. Another thing that’s upped the ante are the insane squirrel on acid vocals of Mr. Matt Young! He jabbers and screams like someone’s got car batteries hooked up to his nuts and somehow it fits the KING PARROT style to a “T”.

As you can also tell, they have that peculiar Aussie humor intact. Seriously, they do some of the funniest and most outrageous videos in the metal realm! Do they switch up their sound at all? Well, ‘It’s A Rort’ (I got no clue what a “rort” is) has a bit more of a pounding, chunky feeling to it with less reliance on speed. ‘Target Pig Elite’ is about as vicious as these guys have ever been…on another level. And ‘I Got The Right’ throws a strange kind of rock ‘n’ roll vibe into things, with loopy solos all over the place…it’s delightfully different but not SUPER different. Things wrap up excellently with ‘Pissing On The Fist Of The Law’, a longer than usual tune that again uses a bit slower groove, especially at the end.

This is a return to form and more! It reminds me why KING PARROT is one of the best grind bands on the planet. Whether you’re young or old, pick it up and get educated!
