RUFF MAJIK: Ghost Cult Unveils Zombie Apocalypse Themed Video From South African Stoner Rock Unit; The Devil’s Cattle Full-Length To See Release October 30th Via Mongrel Records

‘Lead Pills And Thrills’ is the third single to be released from The Devil’s Cattle, the upcoming full-length from South African stoner rock collective RUFF MAJIK. It’s the first one to feature long-time producer and new member Evert Snyman plus founding member Johni Holiday front and centre on vocal duties. It’s also the first time the band experimented with piano driven rock ‘n’ roll. Lyrically, the latest single song deals with crippling addiction to both lost love and alcohol. The video is the conceptual follow up to the animated feature for previous single ‘Who Keeps Score’. Comments guitarist/vocalist Johni Holiday, […]

Album Review: Bangladeafy – Housefly

The last time I encountered BANGLADEAFY, they were a mind-melting avant-garde bass-and-drum assault that probed the limits of fusion playing. Strike that memory of BANGLADEAFY. Delete it and wipe it from your memory core. This version of BANGLADEAFY is a completely different beast. And it’s a totally refreshing one. For those who don’t know, the band is a duo. Powerhouse drummer Atif Haq originally hails from Bangladesh and bassist/vocalist Jon Ehlers has hearing impairment…hence the name. Housefly finds them reinventing themselves as a synth-driven rhythm bulldozer and erasing their former electric bass gymnastics. In fact, the bass does not exist […]

THOU AND EMMA RUTH RUNDLE RELEASE NEW SINGLE ‘THE VALLEY’ -COLLABORATIVE ALBUM MAY OUR CHAMBERS BE FULL OUT OCTOBER 30 VIA SACRED BONES

EMMA RUTH RUNDLE and THOU have released their emotional and heavy new ballad, ‘The Valley’. The single reveals the collaborative project’s deeper, darker and vulnerable side. “Fragile yet powerful; sad but fearless. It’s the feeling you get when you listen to a lot of Emma’s music,” THOU guitarist Andy Gibbs describes. EMMA RUTH RUNDLE tells, “The Valley is a place. A landscape that lacks vistas and perspectives. An analogy for unrelenting, crushing mental illness, physical pain, addiction and the isolation that can arise as a result of these diseases. There is a choice one must make once initiated into The […]

PNEUMA HAGION set release date for NUCLEAR WAR NOW! debut album, reveal first track

Nuclear War Now! Productions sets December 1st as the international release date for PNEUMA HAGION’s highly anticipated debut album, Voidgazer, on vinyl LP format. PNEUMA HAGION once again joins forces with Nuclear War Now! to release its debut full-length, Voidgazer. The band and label first collaborated in 2015 to bring forth the first PNEUMA HAGION demo, Trinity I, and resumed their allegiance approximately three years later with the release of the Trinity LP, which compiled that original demo and the two ensuing demos in the series. Like the earlier recordings, Voidgazer presents a starkly monolithic variety of death metal that […]

Album Review: In Malice’s Wake – The Blindness Of Faith

Australia (at least within the metal circles in which I move) is much more known for its black/death output than thrash, so I can say without shame that The Blindness Of Faith is my first encounter with IN MALICE’S WAKE, who have apparently been tearing up the band’s local Melbourne scene and beyond for nearly 18 years, and in recorded form for a bit less, the album we speak of today being its fourth since 2008. Coming five years after Light Upon The Wicked, we find the quartet also now two albums deep into its current lineup – and it […]

FUNERAL LEECH: Death Meditation Full-Length From New York City Death/Doom Practitioners Sees Limited CD Release Via Carbonized And Dawnbreed Records

Death Meditation, the crushing debut from New York City-based death/doom practitioners FUNERAL LEECH, is available for the first time on CD format via Carbonized Records. Initially released on LP and digitally earlier this year, Death Meditation spews forty-five punishing minutes of death/doom darkness mired in contemplation of our mortal fragility; a true volatile display of pure sonic sickness. Recorded and mixed at Chapel Black Studios in Brooklyn, New York by Travis Bacon (White Widows Pact, Black Anvil, Hogwasche) and mastered by Arthur Rizk (Power Trip, Tomb Mold), through the fetid resonance of Death Meditation, FUNERAL LEECH believes that death is […]

Album Review: Pimmit Hills – Heathens & Prophets [EP]

The phrase “born from the ashes of” when referring to a band formed after the end of another usually denotes some sort of catastrophe, some event – or string of events – that caused the upheaval. Not so PIMMIT HILLS, which was birthed out of founding rhythm guitarist Dave Kowalski’s decision to leave stalwart Southern troubadours KING GIANT due to family/life obligations. Simple as that. The remaining members were encouraged to continue, and have, this time under the banner of a name taken from the band’s native Pimmit Hills, Virginia. Originally intended as a full-length debut, as thee darke spectre […]
