Album Review: Undergang – De syv stadier af fordærv [EP]

Denmark death-dealers UNDERGANG have been around forever. Well, not forever, but when, since 2009, the band has released not only 4 full-lengths, but managed to toss out well over a dozen Splits, EPs as well as two live albums, let’s just say the “no rest for the wicked” axiom holds true. De syv stadier af fordærv races forward at the start, not running out of the gate, but crashing through, ‘Død’ careening headlong in fury, only slowing briefly to insert one of the churning, churlish nearly crust groovy moments for which the foursome has become known. ‘Mælkehvid og gennemsigtigt’ is […]

Album Review: ROTHADÁS – Kopár hant… az alvilág felé

Hungarians ROTHADÁS arrive with their first long player, after 2019’s two-song self-titled release. Taking a page from the DARKTHRONE playbook, one might easily assume the duo to follow their ancestors’ now well-trodden paths to the past, but not so. Whereas the former relies these days on breaking down metal/punk/doom to its most stark, Messrs. Ledeczy and Hanyi don’t seem blind to taking ROTHADÁS death/doom down unexpected trails. In truth, what first drew me to Kopár hant…az alvilág felé was the cover art of four Victorian-era pallbearers transporting a coffin towards an inner-lit crypt amid a grey (I envision), rain-drizzled night. […]

Album Review: Mortiferum / Hyperdontia – Split 7″

I use the phrase “short, sharp shock” a fair amount. I try not to, but I’ll admit to it popping up more than I’d like. Besides, it doesn’t really fit this release. Two bands, two songs. Get in, get rabid, get out. Back in the day, those Maxell or TDK 60-90 minute cassettes we’d get in the mail from writing addresses in the back of metal magazines to trade bands and hear music were treasure troves. Yeah, of course there were some clunkers, but more often than not, you’d come away with at least a handful of new (to you) […]

HAD announces debut Mini-Album release

Me Saco Un Ojo Ojo Records sets September 1st as the international release date for HAD’s striking debut mini-album on 12″ vinyl format. Dark Descent Records will be handling the CD version, while Extremely Rotten Productions will handle the tape version. HAD are a mysterious new entity hailing from Copenhagen, with members coming from such bands as Sulphurous and Deiquisitor. Their moniker translates to “Hate” in English, and like much of Denmark’s thriving death metal scene nowadays, HAD possess a potency that’s startling to behold. Fitting for their mysterious means, HAD’s debut recording bears no title. Nevertheless, across four songs […]

ASTRIFEROUS set release date for ME SACO UN OJO debut mini-album

Me Saco Un Ojo Records sets August 7th as the international release date for ASTRIFEROUS’ striking debut mini-album, The Lower Levels Of Sentience, on 12″ vinyl format. Pulverised Records shall be handling the CD version, while Desert Wastelands Productions will handle the tape version. Hailing from Costa Rica, ASTRIFEROUS formed in 2018 and quickly set to work on their first recording. With a couple members concurrently doing time in Bloodsoaked Necrovoid, it’s no surprise that that first ASTRIFEROUS’ recording, Raise High The Scepter Of Indulgence, was of such exemplary quality. Indeed, from the very beginning was the band’s aesthetic firm […]
