Album Review: Fluids – Not Dark Yet

MORBID ANGEL in their classic period had a signature tune called ‘Where The Slime Live’. Well, now we know where the slime lives…covered in FLUIDS! This is one sick, disgusting display of uber-primitive death metal devolution, making overhyped stuff like SANGUISUGABOGG sound about as dangerous as ATREYU. This band is working the same general territory as MORTICIAN, which is not a type of death metal you encounter a lot these days. FLUIDS makes no secret of their love of Hacked Up For Barbecue vintage MORTICIAN. Not Dark Yet oozes with rotten slow and mid-paced riffs that are down-tuned and bass-heavy […]

DENOUNCEMENT PYRE signs with Agonia Records

Agonia Records is pleased to announce the signing of Australian black/death metallers, DENOUNCEMENT PYRE. The band is currently working on its fourth album, follow-up to Black Sun Unbound from 2016. Prior to signing with Agonia Records, the band released a string of various EPs & 7″s, and conjured three full-length albums through Hells Headbangers Records; World Cremation (2010), Almighty Arcanum (2013) and Black Sun Unbound (2016). Amidst extensively touring throughout their native Australia, they brought their live show to New Zealand and USA, during Maryland […]

Album Review: Hinsides – Under Betlehems Brinnande Stjärna

From the opening minute of ‘Afsägelserit’, I wasn’t sure what exactly I was supposed to be hearing. Remember that sound when your cassette player starts to eat the tape itself, so you quickly remove the tape, wind it back up, and it miraculously still plays when you reinsert it into the player, but the music never sounds quite “right” again? Yeah, that. I’ve heard…I’ve made better-sounding demos than this with the punk band I was in when I was 13, and we were legitimately recording into a boom box. Six minutes of hectic that somehow managed to have absolutely nothing […]

PESTILENCE Premieres New Song ‘Deificvs’, Along With A Music Video

Dutch death metal icons PESTILENCE have unveiled a new song ‘Deificvs’ with the accompanying music video, filmed by Grupa 13 (Kreator, Behemoth, Amon Amarth). The song is the second single off the band’s upcoming album Exitivm, following ‘Morbvs Propagationem’. The album is set to be released on June 25th via Agonia Records. Watch the video, here: A new album, on a new label armed with a whole new line-up and a new dynamic: no matter what, PESTILENCE – or more specifically their maestro Patrizio Mameli – is like the phoenix, rising from the ashes, over and over again. An official […]

Album Review: Oxblood Forge – Decimator

Sometimes one critical element can trip a band up. Exhibit A: Boston-based OXBLOOD FORGE, a band specializing in classic heavy metal with a doomy tinge. That kind of material is right up the Doctor’s alley, but one thing brings my enjoyment of the band to a screeching halt. “Screeching” is the correct term, because the vocals of Ken Mackay are 100% amateur hour. It doesn’t take long at all for Mackay’s tuneless shrieks to manifest. From the first second his voice appears on the hard-driving ‘Into The Abyss’, you can tell something is way out of whack. I get the […]

Hammerheart Records teams up with Finland’s Asphodelus

ASPHODELUS has signed worldwide with Hammerheart Records and will record a follow up to 2019’s Stygian Dreams during the Summer of 2021. A release is expected early 2022. Stygian Dreams received great reviews worldwide, comparing ASPHODELUS to the early version of Katatonia, being a Doomed Death/Black band full of melancholy and melodies. ASPHODELUS is the continuation of Cemetary Fog, whom started out in 2012 and did a great EP for Iron Bonehead in 2016. Together with Hammerheart Records Jari Filppu (vocals/guitars) thinks ASPHODELUS will be able to deliver a big record that will appeal strongly to all fans of melancholic […]

CRIN HAWK OPENS THE VEIL OF METATRON TO REVEAL HIS MEDITATIONS ON LIFE AND DEATH

“For reasons known and reasons not, for reasons sown and reasons forgot, and none shall match nor be so vain as the one called man certified insane.” from ‘Man’ For nearly a quarter of a century Crin Hawk has worn the enigmatic mask of Metatron and fronted THE MEADS OF ASPHODEL – one of the most challenging, imaginative, thought provoking and misunderstood bands to emerge from the shadowed vale of black metal. His intense, unflinching lyrics have made albums such as The Murder Of Jesus The Jew and in particular the almost unbearably grief-laden Sonderkommando subjects for endless debate amongst […]

St. Louis Black Metal Duo STORMRULER Reveals Scorching New Track, ‘At The Cliffs Of Azure City’ + New Video

Fast-rising St. Louis, MO, USA based black metal export STORMRULER will release their infernal, fantasy battle-inspired full-length offering, Under The Burning Eclipse, this Friday, May 28 via Napalm Records, and are gracing fans with a special early surprise – a brand new lyric video for the track ‘At The Cliffs Of Azure City’. Combat-ready standout ‘At The Cliffs Of Azure City’ proves exactly why STORMRULER have turned heads in the underground with their grim attack. The track incorporates ruminations of classic heavy metal combined with scorched, war-torn percussion to create a blackened offering for the modern age. STORMRULER says about […]

Album Review: Death On Fire – Six Foot Box [EP]

One would think, after two albums and a split heading up the annoyingly-named DEATH ON FIRE, as well as a “funny” little grind parody project ALPHA O-MAGA, Tim Kenefic would’ve either given up, or at least latched onto something worth a listen. Regrettably, what we’re given with Six Foot Box is more of the same. The title track wanders, even 30 seconds in, meandering, Kenefic doing his best DANZIG impression (check out the band’s truly abysmal stumble through ‘How The Gods Kill’ for his worst), lackadaisical vocals reminiscent of nowadays Phil Anselmo reliving the nods from his heroin days, all […]
