Örnatorpet reveals New single from upcoming album

Nordvis presents the first single from the upcoming ÖRNATORPET album which is due for release on May 5, 2023. Listen to ‘På jordrygg ett slott är rest’ ÖRNATORPET commented:“As the album opener, ‘På jordrygg ett slott är rest’ immediately sets the tone for Evigt främmande, evigt fjärran. Listen, and you’ll be transported to a desolate world where evil forces threaten the very fabric of reality. The title translates to ‘On a drumlin stands a castle’. The castle provides temporal shelter from the horrors lurking outside; it represents a bastion of hope in an otherwise hopeless world, and the music reflects […]

Album Review: Kruelty – Untopia

Tokyo five-pointed star of extremity KRUELTY returns with its second, Untopia, ‘Unknown Nightmare’ opening with a ritual type chant that lulls into a false sense of security, obliterated once the tune proper kicks in. Bulldozer riffs, one of the most addictive bass tones I’ve heard in too long and insistent drums bolster Tatami’s Straight Outta Stockholm vocal hysterics, the band moving deftly in and out of beatdown HXC, NIHILIST-ic stench and COFFINS crawl, and the first song ain’t even over yet. ‘Harder Than Before’ burns with a RINGWORM-like urgency, as frantic, but snapping into time to deliver a breakdown any […]

DORTHIA COTTRELL (WINDHAND) ANNOUNCES NEW SOLO ALBUM, DEATH FOLK COUNTRY, OUT APRIL 21

Dorthia Cottrell envisions her music as both a document of love and a reconciliation with death. On her new album, Death Folk Country, Cottrell wards off death through creation – the most distilled form of love. The spirit of love passed on through her words will be the ultimate reward for earthly suffering. Cottrell’s enigmatic presence guides listeners down a path of introspection – Death Folk Country‘s massive scope touches upon tales of love, loss, and so much more. Cottrell was raised in rural King George, Virginia, a town with less than 5,000 inhabitants. Forests and tall-grass fields stretched before […]

Interview: TRIBUNAL (2023)

When a label chooses a first release of the year it sets the tone for what’s to come in a very real way. Vancouver, British Columbia’s TRIBUNAL were bestowed that honor by 20 Buck Spin, and now bestow upon us a crippling yet cathartic trip through gothic doom/death with debut The Weight Of Remembrance. DEEP INTO DREAMSInterview With Soren Mourne [Cello/Bass/Vocals] and Etienne Flinn [Vocals/Guitars]Interview By: Lord Randall Rebel Extravaganza: First things first, congratulations on the album’s completion, and for (even on first listen, or me) presenting an “album experience” more so than a “collection of songs”. When the songs […]

Album Review: Minenwerfer – Feuerwalze

In the history of warfare, no battle was deadlier, more chaotic and more hellish than the Battle Of The Somme in World War I. Casualties were tabulated at more than one million and this grueling conflict rewrote the rules of war. Feuerwalze, the latest album of American black metal force MINENWERFER, is a concept album dealing with The Somme. This album sounds like all-out warfare. Fast, savage, chaotic yet militant, this is trench war given aural form. World War I is no longer an unusual subject for a metal band – GOD DETHRONED, 1914 and even IRON MAIDEN have dealt […]

DUSKWOOD: new album announced on Ripple Music

Somerset, UK’s heavy and stoner rock foursome DUSKWOOD signs to Ripple Music for the release of their sophomore full-length The Last Voyage, to be issued on May 12th worldwide. Listen to their striking new single ‘Gammon Lord’ and preorder the album now. About their new album The Last Voyage, DUSKWOOD declares: “We wanted to create something that would immerse you. Writing songs about our small-town lives, or the next new trend just doesn’t interest us anymore. Hopefully what we’ve created will allow you to kick back with a glass of liquor, close your eyes and get swept away to another […]

Album Review: Majesties – Vast Reaches Unclaimed

MAJESTIES arrives unexpectedly, comprising members of melodic metal Minnesotan entities OBSEQUIAE and INEXORUM. Vast Reaches Unclaimed is its debut, no demos or fanfare prior to release. Forward, then, we march… ‘In Yearning, Alive’ sets the standard, early DARK TRANQUILLITY, IN FLAMES when they mattered, underrated early work by German force NIGHT IN GALES being reference points, Tanner Anderson clearly enjoying being able to put his mid-range snarl to use in a way he doesn’t (normally) within his other main outlet. From even first listen, the production is sharp when needed, yet polished, almost brought to a glittering sheen simultaneously, a […]

BURTON C. BELL To Debut ‘Paradise Found’ Photography Series At Vincent Castiglia Gallery

Industrial metal’s pioneering vocalist BURTON C. BELL will unveil his ‘Paradise Found’ photography series at the Vincent Castiglia Gallery in Fort Lauderdale, Florida this month. The series features twenty original, full-color photographs of abandoned industrial buildings taken in darkness and fog from 2002-2003. BELL’s images are printed on aluminum using the Dye Sublimation process – an approach BELL calls “celluloid impressionism”. The photographs are representational of BELL’s industrial and science fiction aesthetic. The Vincent Castiglia Gallery, which opened in 2022 to showcase Castiglia’s tattoo designs and selection of limited-edition painting prints, will be premiering BURTON C. BELL’s work on March […]

Album Review: Eisenkult – Vulgäre, deutsche Hassmusik

Relative newcomer EISENKULT returns with Vulgäre, deutsche Hassmusik, the band’s lineup now including vocalist Tiwaz, also in longstanding (and more overtly medieval) ASENHEIM with drummer Valfor. ‘Annufung’ rings us to awareness, dark synth progressions and male chorale ushering in the German’s third. No pitiful, throwaway “intro” track this, a true harbinger of what’s to come, instantly drawing one into the world of the album. Surprisingly catchy, open and memorable from the start, ‘Der Teufel hat’s gesandt’ interlaces EISENKULT’s former 8-bit flirtations into a much bolder, more defiant blending to good effect, the tone of the guitar during the more blackened […]
