Album Review: Static Abyss – Labyrinth Of Veins

AUTOPSY fans, if you’re getting anxious waiting for the next slab of rotten death from your heroes, relief is headed your way. For all intents and purposes, STATIC ABYSS is AUTOPSY, Not all the members of AUTOPSY are here, but Chris Reifert and Greg Wilkinson sure are and if there’s any noticeable difference in style between STATIC ABYSS and AUTOPSY, it escapes me. This is repulsive death-doom laced with insane hammering in classic AUTOPSY/ABSCESS style. I would say the production here is slightly cleaner than what we usually get with AUTOPSY, but the same dedication to depraved sonic destruction is […]

Album Review: Darkthrone – Eternal Hails

Well, true to form, the 19th DARKTHRONE album sounds like it was recorded on a 4-track in a barn somewhere in Norway. That much is expected, and it doesn’t necessarily have to be bad. Eternal Hails is definitely the band’s “doom metal” album. Slower tempos have been a strong part of DARKTHRONE for much of the “primitive punk metal” period of the last 15 years or so, but never have they played such a significant role. To be quite honest, the album is a very mixed bag for me. The doom is across all five lengthy tracks, mixed with the […]

DARKTHRONE TO RELEASE ETERNAL HAILS ON JUNE 25TH

As John Peel once said of The Fall, “Always different, always the same,” so too one could say the same of DARKTHRONE. Things change, times change, people change, and yet even when sounding fresh and new and delivering just five tracks in 45 minutes on their 19th album, Eternal Hails, the Norwegian black metal legends remain defiantly and eternally DARKTHRONE. Since forming in 1986 as Black Death in Kolboton, Norway, DARKTHRONE have been masters of their art. Dropping the death metal of 1991’s Soulside Journey debut album in favour of a more primitive, black metal sound on the following year’s […]

DARKTHRONE RELEASE NEW TRACK ‘THE HARDSHIP OF THE SCOTS’

Listen to DARKTHRONE’s new track ‘ The Hardship Of The Scots’ HERE FENRIZ introduces the track “There really isn’t just ONE song that can represent this album, ‘The Hardship Of The Scots’ was my song and although we also wanted one of Ted’s songs to preview the album Ted took one for the team and we chose my song! His songs are somewhat faster with more black metal in them but still has slow thrash and doom, my song here seems to start with an Invasion Of Your Privacy RATT-era riff or perhaps one from The Ultimate Sin by OZZY […]
