LACES OUT: New York Post-Hardcore Trio To Release Here At The Ashram LP Through Nefarious Industries In November; ‘Kick And Scream’ Streaming + Preorders Posted

Orange County, New York-based trio LACES OUT has been writing steadily throughout the pandemic, cranking out angular ‘90s-influenced post-hardcore. After making their comeback in July with the noisy and turbulent Roger Podacter EP, the group is ready to unleash their full-length debut, Here At The Ashram, a collection of nine juicy tunes picking up where the short and sweet EP left off. Prior to forming LACES OUT, drummer Steve Delucia and guitarist Ed Ciarfella had played together in various projects for nearly twenty years, including Warwick-based post-punk quintet Pigeon of which bassist Ray Wasnieski was also a member. As with […]

Album Review: Gematria – Gematria II: The Spindle Of Necessity

“Gematria” is not just another made up word used as the name of a metal band, but an ancient system of Jewish numerology that reduces words to numbers which reveal inner meaning. OK, that’s out of the way, how about the band of the same name? It’s a two-man combo that actually uses the process of gematria to put together their music, which can best be described as progressive instrumentals with elements of metal, jazz and electronica. Whatever magic or method they use, it works! Gematria II: The Spindle Of Necessity is a delightfully energetic romp of coherent instrumental music […]

Album Review: Bangladeafy – Housefly

The last time I encountered BANGLADEAFY, they were a mind-melting avant-garde bass-and-drum assault that probed the limits of fusion playing. Strike that memory of BANGLADEAFY. Delete it and wipe it from your memory core. This version of BANGLADEAFY is a completely different beast. And it’s a totally refreshing one. For those who don’t know, the band is a duo. Powerhouse drummer Atif Haq originally hails from Bangladesh and bassist/vocalist Jon Ehlers has hearing impairment…hence the name. Housefly finds them reinventing themselves as a synth-driven rhythm bulldozer and erasing their former electric bass gymnastics. In fact, the bass does not exist […]
