BLIGHT HOUSE: ‘Florida Man Hails Satan’ Premiered By Toilet Ov Hell; Blight The Way Album From Rhode Island Death Duo Sees Release On Syrup Moose Records

“…a solid mid-tempo heater driven with some clanky-ass D-beat-adjacent beats and some chunky riffs that somehow both sound dry and smeared in rotting milk.” – Toilet Ov Hell ‘Florida Man Hails Satan’ is the new smash hit from Charlestown, Rhode Island’s demented grind/death sect BLIGHT HOUSE. The track precedes the band’s Blight The Way full-length, out next week on Syrup Moose Records. Since 2014, BLIGHT HOUSE worked under a malaise of dementia born of illness and isolation. The very name of the band is an homage to this. Yet as the rest of the world was forced into these same […]

The eagerly anticipated second leg of ARMORED SAINT’s North American tour supporting W.A.S.P. has been canceled due to extensive back injuries suffered by W.A.S.P.’s Blackie Lawless during the European leg of the run. The tour will be canceled so Lawless can complete a full recovery. Tickets and VIP packages can be refunded at the point of purchase. ARMORED SAINT vocalist John Bush comments, “To say we are super bummed about the tour being canceled would be an understatement. We were all prepping hard, and I was looking forward to turning 60 years old in Wheeling, West Virginia. That being said, […]

Album Review: Xasthur – Inevitably Dark

So, one of the strangest touring packages I’ve seen in a good while was WINO & XASTHUR a few years back. Granted, gone were all elements of black metal from what Scott Connor and his guitar compadre, Joe Baker were doing there, at that dive bar in Nashville, TN, so maybe it wasn’t that outlandish after all. All he needed was a cowboy hat, right? Well, over XASTHUR’s set, I was reminded of what a good guitarist he actually is. And now, a few years after, Connor returns with the sprawling Inevitably Dark, recorded solo and on a Tascam DP-03. […]

Album Review: The Sigil – Argante [EP]

What a pleasant surprise this EP is! If you’re a fan of proto-metal/retro rock, this Swedish band is not to be missed. They could definitely be lumped in with the “occult rock” category, but I feel the songwriting and production is better than most of that ilk. The five tunes here are genuinely well crafted and should appeal to fans of diverse acts like JETHRO TULL, BLUE ÖYSTER CULT, OPETH, ALAN PARSONS PROJECT and URIAH HEEP. The sound is organic hard rock from the heart of the ’70s. ‘The Shape of Shadows’ starts things off with a driving, guitar-oriented tune. […]

Album Review: Vulture Industries – Ghosts From The Past

Norway’s VULTURE INDUSTRIES has been a case of quality over quantity from its inception, so we’ll forgive them if it takes a year, or three, or four between albums. Swimming just beneath the surface, it seems, in the ocean that is prog-infused metal without going full-bore into unabashed wankery, the five-piece has never gotten its due, at least from where this fellow sits. And now, six (count ‘em!) years after the stellar Stranger Times, the band return with Ghosts From The Past. ‘New Lords Of Light’ shines, elements of SENTENCED, GREEN CARNATION and, yes, LACRIMAS PROFUNDERE, a heady blend of […]

Everything Is Noise is currently streaming Old Growth, the new album from Musk Ox/The Night Watch guitarist and Agalloch collaborator NATHANAEL LAROCHETTE. The premiere comes in advance of the record’s official unveiling this Friday, July 21st. Old Growth is a moving collection of solo acoustic compositions recorded live (often by candlelight) in a woodland cabin on the shores of White Lake, Ontario. Coming off the demanding productions of both The Night Watch and Musk Ox’s critically acclaimed third records, the idea for Old Growth was simple enough: record each of the album’s pieces live in a single take, capturing the […]

INCANTATION frontman John McEntee comments, “I’m not interested in playing it safe. I think other people feel that there are limits to what we do. However, I don’t see it that way. If it feels right, then it’s INCANTATION. The songs we write are an honest expression of ourselves. When people hear the new album, I hope they think, ‘Why are these guys so pissed off?!’ Rage gives focus, which is why […]
